Be Baptised

What is Baptism?

When a Christian is baptised it is a very special and moving experience for all concerned. It is a powerful expression of what God can do in our lives, signifying the end of an old life and moving into a new life as a Christian. It speaks of confession, cleansing, being united with Christ in his death and resurrection and answering his call on our lives to “follow Him”.

Baptism is normally by full immersion in water reflecting all the key elements of what Baptism represents.

Jesus set us an example for Baptism:

Jesus was baptised by John –

Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 3:21-22

The early church practiced Baptism:

In Jesus great commission, Matthew 28:18-22, Jesus commands us :”Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”

On the Day of Pentecost, Peter tells the people to “Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:37-38).

Baptism is also about receiving God’s Spirit for service in the Church and the world.

Speak to Tricia (one of our Ministers) and together you can explore if you are ready for this exciting next step in your journey of faith.

Some people are happy to share their story with the congregation in the Baptismal service but equally the act of Baptism itself is sufficient to testify to this significant moment in your life.
